Why "Add to Bag" Isn't Assigning Books to My Students?

What to do when clicking Add to Bag doesn't seem to assign books to students — and how to make sure you've completed all the steps.

Clicking Add to Bag is only the beginning of the assignment process — not the end. If students still can't see the books, it's likely because the assignment wasn't fully submitted.

Many teachers complete Step 3 and assume the books are assigned, but there are three more steps required before students can see anything.

Complete All 6 Steps

Step 1: Go to Library under Instructional Resources. Under the Reading column, click Browse Library.

Step 2: Use the filters to find books. You can filter by topic, Social Studies, Science standards, text complexity level, book series, text type/genre, and more. You can also filter for books with a Comprehension Quiz, Audio, or Writing Prompt.

Step 3: Click Add to Bag for each book you want to assign. You can select multiple books. Then click Create Assignments.

Step 4: Select your students — click the checkbox to select all, or choose individual students. Then click Bulk Assign, select the books, and click Submit.

Step 5: Review the release date, set a due date, and choose any additional options such as Include Quiz or Include Fluency. Click Next.

Step 6: If you have access to Writing, click Skip. Review the final assignment to confirm the right books are going to the right students, then click Create Assignment.

How to Confirm It Worked

After completing Step 6, go to Activity History under Students to verify the assignment appears. Students will see assigned books in the Library with a blue outline and the label "Assigned".
