#1: Prepare to Start Weekly Practice

Learn how to set up, prepare, and start weekly practice for students. Covers scheduling practice time for students to read on My Tasks, tracking reading time, controlling students' dashboard features, and disabling audio support if needed.

Once assessments are complete, the system automatically generates personalized book recommendations based on assessment data and pushes books to My Tasks. Teachers can now plan weekly practice for students to read at their level.

Schedule Time for Independent Personalized Practice

Our platform can work alongside other curricular tools and online libraries within your daily schedule. Weekly usage minutes goals are decided by the administrators. Plan your schedule accordingly. You can use this Teacher Planning Template for planning purpose.

For Spanish and English Only

Make Sure Students Practice Enough Minutes Per Week

  • Click on "Check Usage" to monitor students' usage. Usage report provides activity details on how students spent their minutes in their independent practice

  • Consistent practice at students’ instructional level drives reading growth

Help Students Stay Focused

On Teacher Dashboard, you can control student access to Phonics/First Steps, ChatterCity, Avatar Shop and Library on their dashboards to help your students stay focused if needed.

  • By default, students do not have access to ChatterCity, Avatar Shop and Library during school hours (Mon-Fri 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. local time). Teachers can choose to enable access for specific or all students during school hours following the steps shown in the image below.

  • Phonics will be automatically unlocked or hidden depending on students' proficiency level.

Consider Disabling Book Audio for Personalized Reading Practice

By default, the books assigned by the system automatically come with audio support. As literacy grows, teachers may want to remove the audio support so students develop true reading comprehension.

  1. Go to Settings on the bottom left of your dashboard

  2. Go to Students tab and select the students (check their checkboxes).

  3. Click Actions, then open the Student Action Center.

  4. Click "Student Independent Learning" (under Learning & Tools).

  5. In the "Set Student Independent Learning Settings" panel, find "Include Audio".

  6. Set it to "No".
