Students love to personalize their avatars using coins, which they can spend in the avatar shop to buy accessories.
Here are the ways students earn coins, listed from highest to lowest reward:
Answering comprehension quiz questions correctly — This earns the most coins. Encourage students to read carefully before answering, since correct answers are worth significantly more than incorrect ones.
Reading a book all the way through — Students earn just 1 coin for finishing a book, by design. The app prioritizes comprehension over speed, so the main reward comes from answering the quiz correctly rather than simply reaching the last page.
Completing phonics practice — Students earn coins for phonics activities, with correct answers earning significantly more than incorrect ones. The more accurately they practice, the more coins they collect.
Participating in ChatterCity practice — Students earn coins by engaging with ChatterCity speaking and conversation activities. Any participation counts toward their coin total.
Leveling up through XPs (Experience Points) — The orange line right below student's name. Students earn XPs through any activity in the app. When they accumulate enough XPs, they level up and receive coins as a reward. Note: XPs reflect overall engagement, not just academic performance.
