Method 4: QR Code Login
A QR Code Login Badge is a printed card with a student's name and a QR code. Scanning the QR code signs that student into the app. No username, no password, no typing.
Badges are made for younger students and shared devices. A student holds up their badge, the device reads it, and they are in.
A badge keeps working until you replace it. It does not expire, and it is not affected by the student's password.
How a student signs in with a badge
There are two ways to scan a badge. Both do the same thing.
Option 1: Use the device's camera app
Open the camera app on the iPad or Chromebook.
Point it at the QR code on the badge.
Tap the link that appears.
The app opens and the student is signed in.
Option 2: Use the Badge button on the sign-in page
Tap Badge
Hold the badge up to the camera. The student is signed in as soon as the code is read.
How to Generate and Print QR Code Badges
Go to Settings → Students.
Check the students you want badges for. You can select the whole class as well.
Open Actions and look for the Login Badges section.
Click Print Login Badges.
Your browser's print dialog opens. Print, or choose Save as PDF.
Badges print 9 to a page, in a 3 by 3 grid. Cut along the grid and hand them out.
What if Students Lost Their QR Code Badges?
You can print the same badges as many times as you like, and every copy works. Just go to "print login badges" again.
Tips
Print at full size. Do not shrink the page to fit. The QR code needs to stay large enough for a camera to read it from a comfortable distance.
Laminate or sleeve them. Badges live in backpacks and desks. A lanyard sleeve keeps the code flat and readable.
Sort before you cut. Badges print in the same order as your student list. Keep the stack in order and handing them out is quick.
Keep a spare set. Since reprinting is free and safe, print a second set and keep it in the classroom for the day a badge is left at home.
Treat a badge like a key. Anyone holding it can sign in as that student. If one goes missing in a way that worries you, replace it.
